A Valentine for Monkey 93

It's Love + Sketch for this week's Monkey Challenge 93. The big thing is that you have to use pennants. Since I have neither pennant stamps nor pennant punches, it put the "challenge" into this card. I made a little template and then cut my pennants from Cherry Cobbler card stock that had been embossed with hearts.  The base card is Melon Mambo, layered with white cardstock (with corners punched for a little decoration) then some Recollections DSP. The large heart was die cut from Cherry Cobbler and overlaid with the sentiment (stamped in CC on white) and overlaid again with white die cut heart-shaped "lace". The smaller hearts were punched from CC and MM cardstock. I added little pink pearls on the pennants. It doesn't really show, but the pennants are attached with dimensionals so they do stick out a little from the card. The 3 little hearts are also attached with dimensionals.

Here's this week's sketch:

Cute little kitten eh? I love the little pink tongue sticking out.

Snoopy Valentine for Blog hop

It's week two of Shirley's four-week Valentine Blog hop! You know I had to make a Snoopy card LOL!

I've been wanting to try a center step card and finally went for it.  The card base is Melon Mambo. I embossed the center section with the polka dot folder. The DSP is DCWV. The scalloped circle is made with Cherry Cobbler cardstock and the Bigz circle die. I used my paper piercer to add holes in the scallops. I cut a smaller Melon Mambo circle with my circle cutter. The image itself I stamped twice on white cardstock using black Stazon ink. The second image I cut out just the Snoopy and the envelope. I used glitter on Snoopy and attached him with dimensionals to the first image. I colored in the envelope with a Pink Pirouette marker. I traced around the bottom image with Bashful Blue and used Certainly Celery on the grass.

The two hearts are punched from Cherry Cobbler cardstock and run through the polka-dot embellishment folder. The sentiment is stamped in Melon Mambo on white cardstock and adhered to layers of CC & MM.

Come on and join the blog hop, it's easy:

Anything Goes for Monkey 92

It was time to get out some scraps and make a card for challenge 92 at A La Card Monkey. The sketch is pretty simple:

What a cute little owl! Anyway, I opened my "scrap" drawer and went to work. I heat-embossed the sentiment and image. It took me a couple of tries to get the heat-embossing right on the image - I kept scorching the paper LOL. I colored in the image - from the "Its a Loop Thing" stamp set - using pink pirouette and bashful blue markers. The only paper that I'm sure of where it came from is the lower left DSP, that's from the Ice Cream Parlor package that I got at last year's Sale-a-bration. The embossed ink has a sparkle to it, and the flash on my camera made the "Happy Birthday" look a little faded out on the right side, but in person it's all there.

Love is in the air

I missed last week's A La Card Monkey challenge because I was busy taking down and putting away a gazillion Christmas decorations. I made this card for this week's Monkey 91 challenge "A bundle of love":

This is actually the 2nd card that I made for this challenge - I got carried away the first time and the card ended up looking MUCH too busy. I did this one a lot simpler. The base card is Cherry Cobbler cardstock that I ran through the polka dot embossing folder (I just LOVE my new Big Shot!). The little heart paper is DCWV it's attached to a piece of white cardstock that I used my border punch on. I topped that with white satin ribbon then added the owl with his "balloons". The strings for the balloons are Cherry Cobbler/white baker's twine. The "I Love You" sentiment is from a stampabilities cube and then punched with the scalloped heart punch. This was then sponged with CC and mounted on another embossed heart that I cut out after running it through the Big Shot. The 24-7 is from the Perfect Postage stamp set and punched with the postage punch. Here's this week's sketch:

I'm also going to enter this in Princess Shirley's new Valentine Blog hop.

Quilted Birthday Greetings

While browsing the splitcoaststampers site, I came across a quilted card by lindathecreator. She referenced the tutorial at Nancy Riley's blog. I just had to try this! I have a very good friend who sews and she has a birthday coming up at the end of this month. The base card is Bordering Blue card stock. The "quilt" is made from scraps (aren't they all?) of various papers, 7 different papers cut 3/8" wide, 4 strips each. After I made the square, I ran it through an embossing folder on the big shot to give it some texture. I decided to add "lace" to the edges (white card stock with my border punch). The greeting is stamped with Not Quite Navy, punched with the scalloped square punch and attached with dimensionals. I'm really pleased with the way this came out.

New Start for a New Year

Happy New Year! The theme for Monkey Challenge 89 is a Fresh Start + sketch. I went with a Congratulatory theme. I used a star embossing folder on the Daffodil Delight (I think) card stock. The DSP is Ice Cream Parlor from last year's Sale-a-bration catalog. I stamped the image in Basic Black and colored it in with various markers and colored pencils. The small circle and scalloped square are Wild Wasabi cardstock, the ribbon is Old Olive. The sentiment is from the Happy Greetings stamp set from the summer mini catalog. It is stamped on white card stock then punched with the decorative label punch and sponged with Wild Wasabi. I added rhinestones to the scallops in the circle and the left & right scallops of the square.

Here's the sketch - isn't the baby giraffe cute?
